Waddon is presicnt in the London Borough of Croydon. It lies to he south west of central Corydon and along the borders of the London Borough of Sutton. Waddon is famed for it’s quaint 19th century properties, some of which are even older. South of Waddon comprises of a tower blocks and larger estates of Council-owned homes. The proximity to Croydon has rendered it to be a favorite haunt for young professionals. Waddon lies in the Wandle river valley and has numerous scenic locations which attract a lot of tourists every year. The Croydon Airport was formerly in the Waddon area; as a result the local community had to undergo much suffering due to the WWII bombings. The buildings in the region were once subjected to a restrictive covenant which prevented their heights from being raised above a certain height due to the presence of the airport in the vicinity; however the restrictions must be long redundant as the airport has changed location. Waddon is perhaps the most marginal ward in the Croydon Council and seen representations sway between the Conservative and Labor Parties for many years now. The Labour party had won all three seats in 1994 and then in 1998, the tide swayed in the favor of Conservatives and in 2002 the Labor party once again swept all three seats. |
